Background

Psychologist. Previously worked for Department of Communities and justice (DCJ) and am an authorised foster carer.

Why you wanted to be a part of FoU

Working in child protection and seeing children enter the care system often with only the clothes on their backs left an impact on me for life. Transporting newborn babies in singlets, removing children and being handed a small bag filled with clothing too small or not weather appropriate made me realise there is a big gap in the care system. By joining Fostering our Ummah we’re hoping to close that gap.

A unique story you can share about foster care

When people think of foster care they’re often sold a dim picture; the heartache if the kids don’t stay, the trauma that the children have endured and the hardships in raising a child that has a whole other family. Im here to tell you it can be different! I have developed some amazing relationships with biological families of children I have cared for and we actually consider each other family. If you put in the work, you can build amazing connections.
